Dreamaturgy Zone – D.e-Mo
Artistic Vision of D.e-Mo 2024
The project, a collaboration between Retablo and several theater companies, consists of five performances and two main workshops, as well as a workshop. Through the integration of innovative theatrical techniques and immersive formats, the program explores issues relevant to contemporary society, such as immigration, power, isolation and spirituality, offering deep reflection on the challenges communities face today.
- “Caligula” by Camus and ‘Condominium’ from J.G. Ballard: These two performances, presented in the Performing Media ‘nomadic radio’ format, combine an exploratory and conversational approach with actorly and dramaturgical interpretation. Through itinerant actions and the use of radio systems, the performances take place in the urban context, interacting with the audience and the territory.
- “Boundless” by Banned Theatre: In collaboration with Palermo's Teatro Biondo, this show takes the audience on an emotional journey through simulations of extreme environments, such as human markets and prisons. Using actor-scaffolders and actor-migrants, the show offers a powerful reflection on the phenomenon of migration and cultural barriers.
- “Lingua Ignota” by Ventottozerosei: A dance-theater performance exploring the figure of St. Hildegard, combining songs, multimedia performances and reflections on the relationship between man, the sacred and nature.
- “Death on Christmas Night” by Retablo: A production that addresses current social issues, such as the economic crisis, immigration and identity tensions, through the dramatization of a couple grappling with personal and social challenges.
- “In Your Skin": A workshop curated by Banned Theatre that explores theatrical techniques such as acting, improvisation and creative writing. This course allows participants to immerse themselves in performance art, using their own experiences to stimulate personal and collective growth.
- “From Cells to the Sky": A workshop curated by Simona Lisi that explores how bodily microstructures can influence the relationship with social and personal space, creating a greater awareness of gesture and authenticity.
- “Performing Media” Workshop: Conducted by Carlo Infante and Nuvola Project, this workshop combines words and ideas with video repertoires, performances and installations, creating a dialogue between digital innovation and storytelling of the area.
D.e-Mo 2024 is distinguished by the use of innovative performance languages and immersive technologies that transform urban space into a living stage. The traveling performances and multisensory experiences engage the audience in the first person, inviting them to actively participate in the narrative. This immersive approach not only enhances the territory, but also stimulates a new perception of urban spaces and community dynamics.
One of the main goals of D.e-Mo 2024 is the enhancement of the local area through art. The performances and workshops are site-specific, that is, designed specifically to be performed in places significant to the local community, transforming everyday spaces into extraordinary places for reflection and interaction. Through collaboration with local talents and the use of peripheral and urban spaces, the project aims to strengthen the bond between audiences and their local area, promoting active participation and cultural regeneration.
The project strives to overcome physical, economic, and cultural barriers to engage non-regular audiences, such as young people, the elderly, and people with physical or mental disabilities. By adopting accessible and inclusive modes of communication, D.e-Mo 2024 promotes art as a tool for social cohesion and collective growth, involving schools, local associations, and marginalized communities.
D.e-Mo 2024 is not just an art project, but a true path of community regeneration, in which art becomes the catalyst for social and territorial transformation, promoting inclusion, participation and cultural awareness.
